The price difference between diamond and zircon is huge, but the resemblance is often confusing. There are some simple methods to tell how to distinguish zircon and diamond.
1.Method of viewing the brightness of cut surface:Generally speaking, zircon is less hard than diamond. So when under a magnifying glass, if cut surface you see is new, it's a diamond.If you see small holes in cut surface, it's zircon.
2.Drop test:After cleaning the diamond and zircon, drop drops of water on the countertop.If water droplets can stay on the surface for a long time, they are diamonds.But if the droplets disperse quickly, it's zircon.
3.Transmission line observation:For diamonds, there is almost no light can pass through the surface of the pavilion. Due to the total internal reflection of the diamond, no straight line is seen normally.But if it's zircon, it distorts the line.However, you may not see the black line if you encounter synthetic stone, so this method is not recommended.
